Can antioxidants prevent cancer?

What are antioxidants?
Antioxidants are substances that may protect body cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Free radical damage may lead to cancer. Examples ofantioxidants include beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, vitamins C, E, and A, olive leaves and others which can be found in various fruits and vegetables.
Where’s cancer in all these?
Free radicals that we mentioned just now cause damage to the DNA and other molecules. Over time, such damage may become irreversible and lead to disease including cancer. Antioxidants then come in to take up those free radicals that may contribute to cancer.
So, back to the question…
Considerable laboratory evidence from studies indicates that antioxidants may slow or possibly prevent the development of cancer. Antioxidants are more useful pre-cancer and once treatment for cancer has started you should refrain from taking them, as they might interfere with the treatment.
However, it is more important to adopt a healthy lifestyle and always maintain a positive mindset!
